Resource Errata

The below list refers exclusively to published material--each note is either a clarification of published material, or a minor edit we have made for purposes of clarity or balance.

Note: this isn't something you necessarily need to read through before making a character, but you might want to at least skim it to see what might apply to you specifically, and you may wish to refer back to it from time to time. It is organized by sourcebook and errata type, so that you might quickly pick out those errata that are relevant to you.

  • Core Rules
    • Character Advancement: This site uses the Fixed Hit Points system, as explained on page 197 of the Dungeon Master's Guide. Characters above 1st level gain average hit points for their HD, rounded down at every even level, and rounded up at every odd level.
    • Prestige Classes: The earliest a character can qualify for any PrC, is 6th level.
    • Weapon Proficiencies: Clerics, druids, paladins, and rangers are automatically proficient with their deity's favored weapon if they are not already (such as by dint of their class proficiencies).
    • Turn or Rebuke Undead: See the additional article, linked below. (The changes are too widespread to simply list here.)
    • Magic Items - Staves, Wands, Scepters: These items can be recharged by a caster with the appropriate Item Creation feat, caster level, and spells. (That is, in order to recharge an item, you must be capable of making that item in the first place.) A minimum of 10 charges must be added, at a cost in time, gold, and XP proportional to the total cost of the wand, and recharging requires a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + item's caster level; failure by 5 or more forfeits half the raw materials and XP). NPCs do not typically provide this service. Buying Used Note: Buying used, less than fully charged, staves, wands, & scepters from NPCs is possible with a minimum of 20 charges priced appropriately per charge.
    • Negative Energy, Undead, etc.: See this link for information on how we have decided negative energy works in this game. This has a profound effect on some spells, as well as undead, so especially read this section if you plan to play a necromancer or neutral/evil cleric!
    • Spells
      • Identify (PHB p243) : Note that the 100gp pearl has been changed from a "material component" to a "focus" item so that it is not insanely costly.
      • Polymorph, Shapechange: When first gaining access to one of these spells, you must choose a number of creatures equal to your caster level (chosen only from the Monster Manual). These are the only forms you may shift into using this spell. You may change the list during a level-up, in addition to adding one new creature, but it is otherwise fixed. Further, players are expected to have the adjustments from their alternate forms prepared ahead of time (in order to minimize delays in-play); failure to do so may result in loss of the spell at DM discretion. Further, when making scrolls or other magic items based on these spells, you must choose only one creature from your list to be allowed by that item. (As per the latest WotC errata, Polymorph and Shapechange changes in Constitution affects both HP and Fort Saves.)
      • Fabricate
        • Fabricate is based on the Craft skills. The Craft skills may be used untrained even with the Fabricate spell.
        • You can "Take 10" when crafting with Fabricate. If you make a craft roll and you fail your check by 5 or more, you destroy half of the raw materials as per the standard crafting rules.
        • Magical items that improve your skill or Int bonus are allowed.
        • Fabricate materials cost the standard 1/3 cost of the item's market value.
    • Psionics: No psionic classes, race variants, or feats are allowed for play on this site. No psionic-specific class, race, or feat presented in any other supplement is allowed for play on this site. (An exception is made for the Psionic SRD feats that have nothing to do with psionics).
    • Unearthed Arcana Materials: Though these materials have been added to the SRD, they are not supported for use on this site.
    • Metamagic Feat - Subdual Substitution (Divine SRD): Spells affected by this feat are still subject to energy resistance as if the energy type had not been changed.
    • Weapons - DMG - Asian Weapons: The Asian weapons listed in the DMG are not supported for use on this site.
  • Forgotten Realms (FR) Specific
    • Champions of Ruin
      • Races
        • Extaminaar: This race is not allowed for play on this site.
        • Krinth: This race is considered an ECL+1 race for the purposes of being allowed for play on this site, though its actual Level Adjustment is unchanged.
      • Prestige Class - Justice of Weald and Woe: Add "Special: Membership in the Eldreth Veluuthra" to the list of entry requirements.
    • Magic of Faerun
      • Feat - Spellfire Wielder: This feat is not available to any PC character.
    • City of Splendors: Waterdeep
      • New Item - Sleep Smoke: This item does not exist. This is not the poison you are looking for. Move along. (FRCS, p96, Alchemical Sleep Gas is allowed).
    • Player's Guide to Faerun
      • Feats
        • Merchantile Background: This feat remains identical to the version presented in the FRCS. (The format of this site makes the newer feat far more easily abused than in a table top game.)
        • Spellcasting Prodigy: This feat remains identical to the version presented in the FRCS, in that the primary casting stat is considered higher for both bonus spells and save DCs, not just bonus spells.
      • Prestige Class - Divine Seeker: Disable Device and Open Lock are class skills.
  • Complete Series
    • Complete Adventurer
      • Class - Ninja: This class is not allowed for play on this site.
      • Skill - Craft (Poisonmaking): Adjust the listed creation costs of 1/6 and 3/4 to 1/3 and 1/2, respectively. This makes the skill fit better with the others, and reduces the effects of what amounts to a subjective DM judgment call.
    • Complete Arcane
      • Classes
        • Wu Jen: This class is not allowed for play on this site.
        • Warmage: Add the following spells to the warmage's class list at the listed level.
          • 0-level: Electric jolt, Horizikaul's cough
          • 1st-level: Corrosive grasp, Horizikaul's boom, ice dagger, Snilloc's snowball
          • 2nd-level: Decastave, Aganazzar's scorcher, battering ram, combust, Gedlee's electric loop, life bolt, Snilloc's snowball swarm
          • 3rd-level: Great thunderclap, icelance, manyjaws, Mestil's acid breath, scintillating sphere, shatterfloor
          • 4th-level: Explosive cascade, forcewave, thunderlance
          • 5th-level: Ball lightning, cacophonic shield, firebrand, fleshshiver, Mestil's acid sheath, Presper's moonbow, shroud of flame
          • 6th-level: Acid storm
          • 7th-level: Nybor's stern reproof, prismatic eye, Zajimarn's ice claw prison
          • 8th-level: Flensing, lightning ring, Zajimarn's field of icy razors
          • 9th-level: Maw of chaos, Zajimarn's avalanche
      • Prestige Class - Suel Arcanamarch: This class becomes known simply as the "Arcanamarch." The language requirement becomes "Thoross or Roushoum."
      • Feats
        • Extra Slot: The extra spell slot granted by this feat, contrary to the feat description, continually migrates to the highest eligible level.
        • Extra Spell: At each even caster level, a spontaneous caster may swap the Extra Spell for another (including one of a higher level, up to the highest eligible level).
        • Sculpt Spell: You can alter a spread, line, cylinder, or cube (shapeable) shaped spell to make it affect a differently-shaped area. Any numeric measurements of the spell's area are altered as per the formula below (round the original spell's area down). If the spell's original area is a cone or line, it gains a range in its new form equal to that of the original spell. A sculpted spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level.
          • Cube-Shaped Spell: Each single 10-ft. cube equals...
          • Cone-Shaped Spell: Each 10-ft. length of the cone equals...
          • Line-Shaped Spell: Each 30-ft. length of the line equals...
          • Spread-Shaped Spell: Each 5-ft. radius of the sphere equals...
          • Cylindrical Spell: Each 2-1/2-ft. radius of the cylinder (round up to nearest 5-ft. increment). A cylinder created via this spell has a height three times its radius.
    • Complete Divine
      • Class - Spirit Shaman: Like clerics, druids, and other divine spellcasters of the Forgotten Realms, the Spirit Shaman must in fact pick a patron deity in order to cast divine spells. (Common patron deities are the nature deities, plus Dumathoin, Jergal, Kelemvor, Savras, Sehanine Moonbow, and Uthgar--deities who deal with divination, death, and spirits.)
      • Feats - Faith Feats: This variant system is not used on this site.
      • Prestige Classes
        • Dweomerkeeper (from Web Enhancement): In the Supernatural Spell class feature, remove the text "does not require any components." Add the following note right before the last sentence in this paragraph: "The dweomerkeeper also does not use any components when using this ability, although a spell that costs XP to cast still does so, and a spell with costly material components instead costs that amount in XP."
        • Radiant Servant of Pelor: This class becomes known as the "Radiant Servant," and requires patron deity Ilmater, Lathander, or Torm. Replace its normal 5th level ability with the "Extra Greater Turning" ability listed at 1st level. Instead at 1st level, followers of Ilmater and Torm gain Sun as a bonus domain, and followers of Lathander gain Healing as a bonus domain.
        • Shining Blade of Heironeus: This class becomes known as the "Shining Blade," and can be taken by followers of Corellon Larethian (elves), Haela Brightaxe (dwarves), Arvoreen (halflings), Gaerdal Ironhand (gnomes), or Tyr/Torm/Helm (humans).
        • Temple Raider of Oliddamara: This class becomes known as the "Temple Raider," and requires either Mask or Brandobaris as a patron deity.
    • Complete Warrior
      • Classes - Samurai, Variant Paladin, Variant Ranger: None of these classes are allowed for play on this site.
      • Prestige Classes
        • Invisible Blade: The feat prerequisites are Weapon Finesse and Weapon Focus (dagger, kukri, or punching dagger). Ignore the prerequisite feats listed in the book.
        • Ronin: This prestige class is not allowed for play on this site.
  • Other Non-FR
    • Frostburn
      • Races - Neanderthal, Uldra: Neither of these races is allowed for play on this site.
      • Feat - Mark of Hleid: This feat becomes known as the "Mark of Ulutiu." Further, it becomes a Regional feat, available only to characters from the regions of The North, Spine of the World, or Great Glacier.
      • Spell - Shivering Touch: This spell is made of stinky cheese that makes us cry. Consider it, and the Lesser version, banned.
      • Prestige Classes
        • Rimefire Witch: The Patron Deity requirement of this class becomes Ulutiu, not Hleid. The "Detect Minion of Iborighu" feature of this class becomes "Detect Minion of Auril/Umberlee," and detects followers or either of those deities.
        • Winterhaunt of Iborighu: This class becomes known as the "Winterhaunt of Auril," and requires that patron deity. The class' granted proficiency with scythe becomes proficiency with battleaxe.
    • Sandstorm
      • Races - Asherati, Bhuka: Neither of these races is allowed for play on this site.
      • Feats
        • Blessed of Tem-Et-Nu: This feat becomes known as "Blessed of Isis." Further, it becomes a Regional Feat, available only to characters from the region of Mulhorand.
        • Judged by Aurifar: This feat becomes known as "Judged By Lathander," and requires either that patron deity or patron deity Horus-Re.
        • Light of Aurifar: This feat becomes known as "Light of Lathander." It is otherwise unchanged, and despite its name, is available to followers of gods other than Lathander, provided the other prerequisites are met.
      • Prestige Classes
        • Scion of Tem-Et-Nu: This class becomes known as the "Scion of Isis," and requires that patron deity.
        • Walker of the Waste: This class has as an amended list of requirements as follows: Non-good, Feat (Heat Endurance), and the ability to cast 3rd level divine spells including at least 3 spells from Sand or Thirst Domains as divine spells.
    • Stormwrack
      • Races
        • Aventi, Darfellan, Hadozee: None of these races is allowed for play on this site.
        • Elf (Half-Elf), Aquatic: Version in Stormwrack is replaced by the version from Races of Faerun
        • Variant Dwarves, Gnomes, and Hin: These variants are allowed for play on this site.
    • Spell Compendium
      • Draconic Polymorph: Yet another WotC 'Oopsie' that was not errata'd before the switch over to 4ed. This spell is listed as a 5th level wiz/sor spell in this book, however; is never detailed out. To remedy this, please see the details in Draconomicon, pg79, from which it was taken. (All the usual site restrictions to Polymorph apply.)
